Friday 12/9/11

Friday already!

Short test today, if your study guide is completed at the beginning of class you can use it for the test.  If incomplete this is not an option for you.

You will get the study gide for the final tomorrow, as well as turn in all materials for the unit.

Benchmark is your final and it is worth 90 points so you must study.  If you score a proficient or advanced your grade will automatically go up half letter grade (A- would go up to an A).

Tonight at 7:30 at MJC East campus is a lecture about the Genome of the Neandertal, if you go you will get 30 points extra credit if you complete a one page write up and collect handouts.  I will probably be there, so I hope to see you it will be a a very interesting lecture.

Open book test today, you'll be turning in your packet at the end of class.  Prepare by reading through the cellular resipration and photosynthesis sections in your book and checking to make sure your lesson notes are complete.

Monday 10/3/11

It's Monday!

Today we'll start off with a demonstration on energy during photosynthesis and cellular respiration, you should understand the role of electrons and NADPH+ to produce ATP in both the light dependent and light independent reactions. 

We will also be focusing on where the reactions take place such as in the chloroplast and stroma, inside or out of the mitochondria.

Vocabulary quiz tomorrow, study those words and be sure that you have your four fold finished.

There are labs scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday but it might get pushed up a day depending on equipment needs with other classes.

Thursday 9/30/11

Yesterday we learned  how the sun is the ultimate source of energy and that Glucose is the energy of cells.  Today we'll do a lab to observe photosythesis in action, you'll need to be very patient and make accurate observations to get the data for your table and graph.

Today we'll finish how substances and fluids cross through cell membrane notes focusing on the sodium-potassium pump.  We will then do a lab with Elodea to see how environmental conditions influence how substances pass through the membrane.

Today we're using the metric system and the SI.  SI is used worldwide for scientific purposes (even in the US!)
