Today we'll be watching a short video on photosynthesis, then finishing and trading the vocabulary cards, and doing lesson 9.2.

Vocabulary quiz on Tuesday 16 points, you need to know all the words.

Thursday 9/30/11

Yesterday we learned  how the sun is the ultimate source of energy and that Glucose is the energy of cells.  Today we'll do a lab to observe photosythesis in action, you'll need to be very patient and make accurate observations to get the data for your table and graph.

C.O. Observe and collect data of photosynthesis.

Homework- Finish vocabulary fold - 3 extra credit points if done at the start of class tomorrow

Wednesday 9/28/11

Start Unit 4  Energy in Living Sysytems.  We'll start the class by putting together the packets.

C.O.  Students know usable energy is captured from sunlight by chloroplasts and is stored through the synthesis of sugar from carbon dioxide.

Thursday 9/22

No vocabulary quiz today, changed to Friday!!!

Today we'll finish how substances and fluids cross through cell membrane notes focusing on the sodium-potassium pump.  We will then do a lab with Elodea to see how environmental conditions influence how substances pass through the membrane.

Homework- Finish membrane illustration and questions, stamped at start of class.

C.O.  Know that energy is required for movement against the concentration gradient of a cell membrane.

First day of fall!

Homework- finish vocabulary and get it stamped, finish cell membrane picture and questions by Thursday.

Thusday 9/15

TEST FRIDAY!!!

Study the unit guide passed out today.  We will have some class time after a short Cell DVD to review.

Homework- complete all assignments from Wednesday and study guide by Friday before test, this is passed in before the test with your packets.

C.O. Able to identify organic compounds, and cell organelles.

Extra credit- while you take the test list ALL levels of life organization.  You can also and/or list the characteristics of an organism from unit 1.

Wednesday 9/14

Today we'll finish the lab, then notes on the Endoplasmic Reticulum and Golgi Apparatus.  You will also get the Unit 2 study guide for the test on Friday.

C.O. List the functions of Golgi Apparatus and Endoplasmic Reticulum.

Homework-Finish vocabulary grid of organelles and cell illustrations, will be stamped tomorrow in class.

TEST FRIDAY, vocabulary re-take Thursday.

Tuesday 9/13

We'll be doing a cell lab today and into Wednesday working in partners.  It's very important to stay focused and on task as you will be using tools, stains, and following detailed instructions.

C.O.  Differentiate between types of cells and how they are classified.

Test will be Friday, please plan ahead for studying.  Definitely keep up with the vocabulary and the function of the organelles.

Homework- Finish organelle diagrams and vocabulary grid by Wednesday.

Monday 9/12

Early release today.

POP QUIZ-- You should know the 3 parts of cell theory. Be able to describe the role of three organelles (you can decide which ones).  Define the two types of cells (prokaryotic and eukaryotic) and know three differences between plant and animal cells. 

C.O.  List the levels of organization from cell to organism.

Lab starts Tuesday, back to school night at 6:00 tonight.

Welcome back, I hope everyone had a nice three day weekend.

Today we'll be doing lab on enzyme reactions which will lead into early release day on Wednesday.

C.O.  SWBAT determine if changes in temperature will have effects on the activity of an enzyme.
